Raijor Dal President Akhil Gogoi has reacted to offers and statements regarding the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Gogoi, who is facing a defamation case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, rejected a “first-class flight to Singapore and a five-star hotel stay” as an irrelevant gesture in the context of justice.

“Instead of offering me luxurious trips and comfort, ask your husband deity to direct the investigative agencies to go to Singapore and investigate Zubeen’s case,” Gogoi said in a statement. He emphasized that no one could stop him from demanding a proper investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death, which he described as an issue that affects every Assamese person. “We are waiting with immense patience for justice for Zubeen,” he added.

Gogoi also replied to a post by Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, who expressed her grief over her husband’s death, questioning, “20 days… Am I truly alive?” In support of her statement, Gogoi said, “We feel the same way. How are we surviving without uncovering the mystery behind the death of someone so close to every Assamese, like Zubeen? Twenty days have passed, and yet there is no answer. We need only one thing: to know who killed Assam’s beloved Zubeen Garg. Why did it happen? Why was his life ended so casually, without any accountability?”

The Raijor Dal leader criticized the ongoing political entanglements surrounding the case. “Why has the mystery still not been solved? Why is justice being delayed due to political maneuvering? We do not need politics here. Nobody needs politics. What we need is pure justice. Justice for Zubeen, justice for Garima Garg, justice for the family, and justice for the people of Assam,” he said.

Gogoi also issued a warning to the state leadership, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “Do not push us onto the path of protest. Must we take to the streets of Assam to demand justice for Zubeen? We are holding our breath, waiting to know the reason behind the death of our beloved singer. The people of Assam are waiting for the culprit to be caught and punished. Every individual is waiting for a life sentence for the murder that occurred. We need justice today. We need justice immediately,” he added.
