A dramatic incident at Shilpgram has raised serious questions about the conduct of elected leaders in Assam. AIUDF MLA from Chenga, Ashraful Hussain, was caught on camera using harsh and threatening words against a security guard who is also a policeman. The video, which has now gone viral, shows the MLA saying, “I will smash your teeth,” while confronting the security personnel on duty.
The confrontation took in front of several people creating an uneasy atmosphere at the cultural complex. In the footage, the MLA can be seen getting into a heated argument with the security guard. At one point, he repeatedly asks the guard whether he knows who the MLA is, saying that the guard has not “seen” him and does not “know” him. The exchange appears tense, with the MLA visibly angry and speaking in an intimidating tone.
The security guard, however, did not stay silent. In the video, he is heard questioning the MLA’s behaviour. The guard calmly asks, “Whose teeth will you break? Being an MLA, can you say this? Being an MLA, can you behave like this? Is this your dadagiri?” His words have resonated with many viewers who are questioning the growing trend of high-handedness shown by some public representatives.
This incident brings up a larger issue about the responsibilities of those in public office. An MLA holds a position of trust and is expected to lead by example. Instead, seeing an elected representative threatening a policeman on duty has shocked many people across the state. Critics say that such behaviour is completely unacceptable, especially from someone who was chosen by the people to uphold law, dignity, and democratic values.
Many citizens are also asking why an MLA would resort to such language and intimidation in a public place.
