The Tinsukia District Administration has declared parts of the district as an Infected Zone after the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the area. The announcement has raised serious concern among pig farmers and local residents as the authorities have begun taking immediate steps to contain the spread of the disease.

According to an official notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, one of the Development Blocks in the district and the surrounding area within a 1-kilometre radius have been marked as an Infected Zone. The decision follows the detection of ASF cases among local pig populations, which has alarmed veterinary officials and the farming community.

As per the Action Plan for Preparedness, Control and Containment of African Swine Fever issued by the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Assam, culling of pigs in the affected area will begin immediately. This step, though difficult, has been deemed necessary to stop the disease from spreading further. Officials said the culling operation will be carried out under strict supervision by veterinary officers, and all biosecurity protocols will be followed.

Within this zone, continuous monitoring and preventive measures will be undertaken. Veterinary teams will visit villages and pig farms to identify symptoms, collect samples, and ensure that no infected or dead pigs are transported outside the area.
