Residents of Melamati village in Titabor witnessed a strong demonstration today as the All Assam Adivasi Students’ Association (AASAA) staged a protest over alleged irregularities in the Orunodoi scheme. The protest was organized to demand a fair and transparent process in selecting beneficiaries under the state government’s flagship welfare program.
The student leaders claimed that the current beneficiary list under the Orunodoi scheme has serious discrepancies. According to AASAA, many people who were previously entitled to the scheme have been unfairly left out, while politically connected individuals were included. “The scheme is meant for those who genuinely need support. It should not be misused for political gains,” said a spokesperson for the students’ organization.
The protestors gathered at the village panchayat office, carrying banners and slogans calling for justice and transparency. They emphasized that government welfare programs like Orunodoi must reach those who are truly economically disadvantaged and deserving. They also demanded strict monitoring to ensure that no further irregularities occur in the future.
AASAA specifically called out the village panchayat chairperson, holding them responsible for the alleged mismanagement in implementing the scheme. The students demanded an immediate explanation and urged the authorities to revise the beneficiary list in a fair and impartial manner.
