Assam has come together in grief and respect after the passing of veteran Assamese singer, lyricist and composer Syed Sadulla, who breathed his last at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday morning. He was 77. While his loss has brought sadness to people across the state, his family’s decision to donate his eyes has brought hope and light to two individuals who were waiting to see the world again.
This noble act has become the most touching moment in Assam today. Even in a time of deep sorrow, the family chose to help others. Because of this eye donation, two cornea-blind patients will now be able to see again.
The Gauhati Medical College Eye Bank issued a thank-you message to the family. The note expressed deep gratitude and said that this donation will forever be remembered. The medical team shared that such acts help bring sight to people who have lost hope, and they praised the family for thinking about others at such a painful moment.
The thank-you letter was signed by Dr. Himanto Nath Hazarika, in-charge of the Eye Bank. They said the family had performed a noble deed and that the hospital will always remain grateful for this humanitarian act. They also mentioned that eye donation gives a new life to those living in darkness.
Born on February 1, 1948, in Dibrugarh, Syed Sadulla was known for his soulful voice and meaningful songs. He worked with All India Radio, touched hearts with his gentle tone, and left behind music that has been loved across generations in Assam. Many people grew up listening to him, and his songs continue to be played at gatherings and quiet emotional moments in Assamese homes.
He had been admitted to GMCH a few days earlier after suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), a serious blood-related illness. Doctors said he faced breathing difficulties due to low oxygen levels, and he was placed on ventilator support. Despite continuous medical care, he passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, around 10:30 AM.
