Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi, along with party leaders and workers, visited Sonapur on Thursday and offered prayers at the Zubeen Kshetra, dedicated to Assam’s well-known cultural icon Zubeen Garg. The visit was held ahead of the party’s Foundation Day programme and marked the formal start of Raijor Dal’s fifth year celebrations.

Party leaders said the visit was a gesture of respect towards Assam’s cultural spirit and reflected the party’s emotional connection with the people of the state. They described Zubeen Garg as a voice that represents the struggles, emotions and identity of Assam.

The Foundation Day celebrations also marked the beginning of Raijor Dal’s preparations for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. During the programme, the party laid out its political direction and governance vision, focusing mainly on agriculture, land rights, employment and social security.

Addressing party workers, Akhil Gogoi said the Foundation Day was not just a celebration of the party’s journey but the beginning of what he described as a decisive political movement. He said the aim was to build a “new Assam” that would work for farmers, workers and ordinary people.

On the occasion, Raijor Dal adopted five key resolutions at the Zubeen Kshetra. The party pledged to transform Assam into a state with year-round farming within five years. Gogoi said uninterrupted irrigation facilities would be ensured so that farmers can cultivate crops throughout all twelve months. He said farmers cannot survive with dignity unless agriculture becomes a year-round activity.

The party also resolved to provide land pattas to all indigenous people of Assam. Leaders said land rights are essential for economic security and social stability. Another resolution focused on ensuring Minimum Support Price for farmers while also protecting consumers from unfair pricing.

Raijor Dal further announced plans to establish small and micro industries in every village and region of the state. The party said professional training would be provided to citizens to promote self-reliance. Tourism was also identified as a key area, with the party stating that Assam should be developed into one of India’s leading tourism states.

The party said important decisions related to the 2026 elections, including how many seats it will contest, will be finalised during Foundation Day meetings. The process of preparing the party’s manifesto has also begun. A draft manifesto was adopted, and consultations with experts will follow. The final manifesto is expected to be released by January 15.

According to the draft document, Raijor Dal plans to build a multi-crop agricultural state, strengthen local control over markets, promote trade through Assam’s eastern corridor, and create employment by setting up industries in every village and urban area. The party also announced a series of guarantees, including justice for Zubeen Garg, monthly financial assistance for women and vulnerable groups, free skill training, better healthcare, land rights, wage hikes for tea garden workers, and protection of indigenous interests.
