A new children’s recreation park named after well-known Assamese singer and artist Zubeen Garg has been opened to the public in Lumding under Hojai district. The park, located in Ward No. 2 of Lumding town, was formally inaugurated on Tuesday evening by Lumding MLA Sibu Misra.
Officials of the Lumding Municipal Board, ward commissioners and several prominent citizens of the Lumding constituency were present at the inauguration ceremony. Local residents said the park is expected to become an important open space for children and families in the area. The project has been constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 40 lakh.
People of Lumding expressed happiness that their town now has a dedicated children’s park named after one of Assam’s most admired cultural icons. Many said the park would help encourage recreation, outdoor activity and community interaction among young people.
After the inauguration, MLA Sibu Misra spoke to reporters and made strong and controversial remarks regarding Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser and interim head of government of Bangladesh. Misra alleged that Yunus was acting against humanitarian values and said he should resign from his position. He used harsh language while making the allegations and criticised the situation in Bangladesh.
Misra claimed that members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh were facing attacks and discrimination. He further alleged that journalists in Bangladesh were being threatened and that their voices were being suppressed. Speaking in strong terms, he said such incidents were against human rights and against basic humanitarian principles.
He also referred to an incident in Pahalgam, alleging that Hindus were targeted there. Misra told reporters that if such incidents continued, India should reconsider extending help to Bangladesh. He said that the work being done by Muhammad Yunus would receive a reply from the people in due time.
