Tipra Motha Party founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the main accused in the murder of Tripura student Anjel (Angel) Chakma in Dehradun.

The announcement was made through a video message posted by Debbarma, who said the amount would come personally from him. He criticised the earlier announcement of a ₹25,000 reward by the Uttarakhand Police, calling it too small for a case involving the death of a young student.

Anjel, aged 24, was a final-year MBA student from Nandannagar in West Tripura district. According to reports, he was attacked by a group of six people on December 9 after he objected to a racial remark. He sustained serious injuries and later died on December 26 while undergoing treatment.

Police officials have said that five of the accused have already been arrested, while the alleged mastermind is still absconding.

In his message, Debbarma questioned the low reward offered earlier and said the murder must not be taken lightly.
He stated that the ₹10 lakh reward was meant to encourage people to come forward with credible information so that the main accused does not escape the law.
“Don’t make fun of us,” he said, stressing that a strong signal needed to be sent against racial abuse and violence.

The killing has led to anger and protests in Tripura and has again raised concerns about the safety of students from the Northeast studying in other parts of the country. Community groups have demanded strong legal measures and quicker police action in such cases.

In a separate development, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which is run by the Tipra Motha Party, also announced ₹3 lakh financial assistance for the bereaved family.
TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia said the amount was being given to support the family during the funeral and mourning period. He said the decision reflected solidarity and compassion during a painful time.

He added that the Council stood with the Chakma community and the family of the deceased student, and that their thoughts and prayers were with them.

The murder has deeply affected many young people in Tripura, especially students who travel to other states for higher education. Several organisations have said that repeated racial comments and attacks have created fear and insecurity among students from the Northeast.

Police in both states are continuing to coordinate their investigation. Authorities have assured that the case will be taken to its logical conclusion and that those responsible will be punished.

For now, the search for the absconding mastermind continues, with the new ₹10 lakh reward offer expected to intensify efforts to track him down.
