The Assam government has carried out a major reshuffle of senior IAS and ACS officers across several districts, bringing in new administrative heads in key locations. The changes have been made “in the interest of public service,” according to an official notification issued from Dispur on December 24.
One of the most important developments is the change of the District Commissioner in Karbi Anglong. Nirala Phangshopi, ACS, who was serving as the DC of Karbi Anglong, has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Hill Areas Department. She has now been replaced by Aranyak Saikia, IAS (RR-2020), who was earlier serving as Staff Officer to the Chief Secretary, Assam.
The move comes at a time when Karbi Anglong has recently witnessed tension and unrest. The administration is currently focused on restoring peace and ensuring normal law and order in the district. The appointment of the new DC is expected to strengthen the local administration during this sensitive period.
Several other districts have also seen new postings. Sumit Sattawan, IAS, earlier serving as District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), has been transferred and posted as District Commissioner of Tinsukia. In a reciprocal move, Swapneel Paul, IAS, who was serving as DC of Tinsukia, has been posted as District Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro).
There has also been an exchange of postings between Sivasagar and Cachar. Aayush Garg, IAS, the DC of Sivasagar, has been posted as District Commissioner of Cachar, while Mridul Yadav, IAS, who was the DC of Cachar, has taken charge as District Commissioner of Sivasagar.
In western Assam, Dibakar Nath, IAS, the DC of Dhubri, has been transferred to Bongaigaon. At the same time, Nabadeep Pathak, ACS, who was serving as DC of Bongaigaon, has now taken over as District Commissioner of Dhubri.
A reshuffle has also taken place in Darrang and Golaghat. Parag Kumar Kakaty, ACS, earlier posted as DC of Darrang, has been transferred as District Commissioner of Golaghat. Meanwhile, Pulak Mahanta, ACS, who was serving as DC of Golaghat, has been appointed as Inspector General of Prisons, Assam.
In another major change, Pankaj Chakravarty, ACS, the DC of Tamulpur, has been posted as District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, along with additional responsibility as Director of Training at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College. Simi Karan, IAS, who was Joint Secretary in the Environment and Forest Department, has been transferred and posted as District Commissioner of Tamulpur.
At the same time, Masanda Magdalin Pertin, IAS, the DC of Kokrajhar, has been moved to Dispur and posted as Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Finance Department.
