Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a busy day in Assam today with programmes planned in Guwahati and Dibrugarh. His schedule will focus on students, history, and development projects in the state. Officials said the visit is part of the ongoing outreach of the central government in the Northeast.
The Prime Minister will begin his engagements in Guwahati. As part of the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” programme, he will interact with 25 meritorious students from Assam. What makes the interaction unusual is that it will take place on a cruise vessel on the Brahmaputra River. The initiative aims to give students an informal space to speak freely about examinations, academic challenges, and personal concerns. This discussion comes ahead of upcoming exams and is meant to encourage young learners, teachers said.
After the interaction with students, the Prime Minister will visit the Swahid Smarak Kshetra at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati. He will pay tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the memorial site. The Assam Movement, which shaped the political and social landscape of the state, holds deep significance for many in Assam.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will proceed to Dibrugarh district. He will lay the foundation stone for a fertiliser plant at Namrup. According to officials, the plant is expected to have a production capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes. Authorities say that the project is aimed at strengthening fertiliser production in Assam and boosting agriculture in the Northeast.
During his previous visit, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. He also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi at the entrance of the terminal building. Bordoloi was Assam’s first Chief Minister and is remembered for his leadership and contribution to the region.
