The Singapore Police Force has said there is no evidence of foul play in the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg so far. In a statement issued on Thursday, the police clarified that the case is still under investigation under the Singapore Coroners Act, 2010.

The statement comes amid reports in some sections of the Indian media that four people linked to Garg’s visit had been charged with murder in Assam. These reports claimed that his co-singer, a band member, his manager, and the festival organiser had been booked in connection with the incident. However, Singapore authorities have not confirmed these claims.

Zubeen Garg, aged 52, died on September 19 in Singapore while he was there to attend a cultural festival. His death led to shock and grief across Assam and among fans everywhere. Many people have been waiting for clarity on the circumstances of his sudden death.

In its statement, the Singapore Police Force said that the investigation remains open. “The case is currently still being investigated by the SPF, in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010,” the police said. The statement added that the investigation may take several more months to complete.

Police officials further said that once their findings are ready, they will be forwarded to the State Coroner. The coroner will then conduct a formal inquiry into the matter. According to the police, this coronial inquiry is expected to take place in January and February 2026.

Under Singapore law, such inquiries examine the cause and circumstances of sudden or unnatural deaths. The process usually includes reviewing evidence gathered by the police and hearing testimonies when needed.
