The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced that it will begin a mass outreach yatra from December 20. The party said the yatra will travel across the state to meet people directly and collect their views for a people-driven manifesto ahead of the upcoming elections.
The outreach plan is part of the party’s campaign called “Raijor Podulit Raijor Congress.” The APCC said that the aim is to involve citizens from all walks of life and build a roadmap for what the party describes as a “New Assam.”
Senior Congress leaders, including MLAs, MPs and other party functionaries, will participate in the yatra. According to the party, the teams will meet farmers, workers, students, small shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, women, intellectuals, social organisations and grassroots community leaders.
The party said that there will be five separate field teams. Each team will move in a bus on routes planned to cover Upper Assam, Central Assam, Barak Valley, Bodoland, the Hill districts and Lower Assam. The party has planned to cover one district per team per day. The APCC said a central coordination team will keep track of field activities and provide support.
The party explained that the manifesto consultation process formally began in Dibrugarh on December 6. Since then, the APCC has been setting up ways for people to share suggestions and expectations.
A digital platform, www.natunaxom.com, has been launched for citizens to send their views online. The party said that this will help connect with people who may not be physically reachable. Along with this, the party has started placing “Aspiration Boxes” across districts in a phased manner. These boxes are being set up in busy public spaces such as markets, bus stops, tea stalls and tea garden lines. The target is to install over 4,000 such boxes.
APCC President Gaurav Gogoi said that the consultation process will begin with a focus on improving higher education in Assam. He said that this sector is directly linked to skill development and employment for the youth.
While introducing the website, Gogoi said, “As a first step, we are seeking guidance and suggestions on Assam’s higher education system, which is closely linked to human resource development. My interactions with students from colleges and universities across Assam show that significant work is still needed to improve quality, strengthen research and innovation, and empower students to become self-reliant.”
The party stated that the yatra and feedback initiatives are meant to make the manifesto inclusive and grounded in real issues. Gogoi urged the people of Assam to participate actively and share their expectations openly.
Appealing for public involvement, Gogoi said, “We envision a state where the aspirations of not one section, but of all people are reflected. As meeting every person physically is not feasible in a digital era, this platform allows us to connect with everyone. We want to listen to farmers, workers, students, small shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, women, intellectuals and social organisations across Assam, and collectively use their experiences to design a roadmap for a new Assam.”
The APCC said the yatra will continue district by district with public interactions, meetings and feedback collection. The party believes that a manifesto built from grassroots input will help shape policies that reflect real needs and concerns of people in rural and urban areas alike.
Party leaders said that the mass outreach and consultations are expected to intensify across the state in the coming weeks.
