Tripura Police have registered a significant success in their ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, with the seizure of narcotics worth nearly Rs 1.5 crore and the arrest of six persons in Dhalai district’s Ambassa subdivision over the past 24 hours.
The operation was carried out by the Ambassa Police following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of illegal drugs through the area. According to officials, two separate operations were conducted late Monday night, both of which led to the recovery of narcotics and the detention of suspected traffickers.
In the first operation, police set up a naka at Upanagar on National Highway-08. During routine checking, a white Maruti WagonR was intercepted. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 45 grams of suspected brown sugar, believed to be heroin, along with 20,000 YABA tablets. The occupants of the vehicle were immediately taken into custody for questioning.
In a second operation carried out near the Ambassa Fire Station, police recovered an additional 24 grams of suspected brown sugar. The contraband was reportedly concealed inside soap cases, a method often used to evade detection during transport. Those involved in this incident were also arrested on the spot.
All six accused have been produced before the authorities, and separate cases have been registered at Ambassa Police Station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials said that further investigation is underway to determine the source of the drugs and to identify possible links to larger trafficking networks operating in the region.
The latest seizure comes close on the heels of another major crackdown on December 15, when Tripura Police arrested four persons from Dharmanagar in North Tripura district and Kumarghat in Unakoti district. In that operation, narcotics worth more than Rs 4 crore were recovered, highlighting the scale of the drug problem and the routes being used by traffickers.
