The Government of Assam has appointed senior doctor and former Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Dr Abhijit Sarma, as the new Executive Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam. The appointment order has been issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department in Dispur.
According to the government notification, Dr Sarma is currently Professor of Surgery at GMCH. He will take over the responsibility from Dr Manoj Kumar Choudhury. The notification mentions that the decision has been taken in the interest of public service and will come into effect from the date he assumes charge.
The notification further explains that Dr Manoj Kumar Choudhury, who has been serving as the Executive Director of NHM Assam, has now been appointed as Director of Medical Education (in-charge). With this appointment, he has been relieved of the charge of Executive Director of NHM. 
However, the order states that Dr Choudhury will continue to remain associated with NHM as the Additional Mission Director with additional charge. The notification adds that the change of responsibility should be updated by the NHM office in its official MIS records.
