The family of late Assamese singer and music icon Zubeen Garg has questioned the circumstances surrounding his death in Singapore, with his sister Dr. Palmee Borthakur making a public statement on social media and suggesting that the singer did not receive the support he needed.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Dr. Borthakur wrote that the family had trusted many people, but alleged that some individuals may have taken advantage of the singer. She expressed deep grief and questioned the way events unfolded during his final days abroad.
“It was not yet the time for you to go,” she wrote. In another part of her post, she expressed that some people “pretended to be friends” while others “pretended to be relatives,” and said these people acted in their own interest.
She further wrote that even on the day of his passing, she believed the situation appeared unusual. She mentioned that “a silent conspiracy” and a “conspiracy of death” surrounded his last hours. She also wrote that the family felt unsupported at crucial moments and questioned whether anyone truly tried to save him.
Dr. Borthakur compared the situation faced by her brother to the story of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata, suggesting that he was trapped in a situation from which he could not escape. She wrote that “Abhimanyu—trapped and sacrificed inside a Chakravyuh,” indicating her belief that the singer was placed under pressure and surrounded by people with different motives.
Her Facebook post also stated that the family believes certain people are still trying to benefit even after Zubeen’s passing, and she urged them not to “play this game any longer.” She ended her post with the hashtag #JusticeForZubeenGarg, which has now started circulating widely on social media, especially among fans and supporters of the late artist.
