The administration in Rupahihat has issued another eviction order to families who are staying on government land in the Chamguri Revenue Circle. This is the second notice served to the people living in that area. The authorities have asked around 200 families to leave the land within 15 days. The land is recorded as Grazing Reserve land and is located in Belguri Kacharigaon.
According to information shared by officials, the families are occupying land under Patta No. 3. The eviction notice mentions specific parts of the area which include land portions 528, 505, 506 and 604. Officials said that this land belongs to the government and should not be used for permanent settlement. The administration said that some people had already moved out earlier after the first notice was served.
Many families living there said that they have been staying in the area for decades. One of them told reporters that their families have been living there for almost 50 years. The person said that there was no grazing reserve at that time and it was declared only around 15 years ago. The resident further said that the new eviction order has put them in a difficult situation as they have no other place to go. The resident said, “We are bound to leave according to the government order, but we do not know where we will go.”
Local people said that the eviction drive has created fear among the residents. Many families are trying to understand what options are available to them. Some residents also said that the government should consider their situation and discuss a solution with them before removing them from the land.
The administration stated that this step is part of an ongoing effort to clear government land from illegal occupation. Officials also said that grazing reserves are meant to be used only for specific government purposes and not for permanent settlement. They added that the government will continue to identify and recover state land that has been encroached upon.
