The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has clearly said that the party will not go for any pre-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. This statement was made by BTC Deputy Chief and senior BPF leader Rihon Daimari during a party programme organised at Karai Guri area in Gohpur. The event was held to celebrate the party’s recent victory at the local level and many leaders and workers were present.
While addressing party supporters, Daimari said that the BPF would contest the next election on its own. He explained that the party wanted to keep full independence during the election process and therefore it would not enter into any pre-poll understanding with any political party. He also said that the party would take its own decisions without depending on others before the election.
However, Daimari mentioned that things may be different after the election. He said that any decision on cooperation or support would depend on which party gets majority and which political formation is serious about development in the Bodoland Territorial Council areas. He said that the BPF would only consider supporting a government that gives importance to the rights, welfare and overall development of the people living in the BTC region.
Daimari also spoke on the ongoing discussion about giving Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six communities in Assam. He said that the BPF has no objection to their demand, but only if the existing tribal communities are not affected. Daimari clearly said that the rights of present tribal groups must be protected. He added that the party would welcome the decision only when the interests and welfare of present ST communities remain safe.
He also commented on the recent incident at the BTC Secretariat in which some people were involved in an attack. According to Daimari, individuals who are connected with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) were involved in the incident. He appealed to the Assam Government to take strict legal steps against those responsible and said that such issues must be handled seriously.
Daimari also said that incidents like these create disturbance in society and harm peace in the region. He urged political and social groups not to take part in activities that increase tension. He said that development in the BTC area cannot happen when there is unrest, and therefore all groups must act responsibly.
Senior BPF leaders including Executive Member of Dhanashiri constituency Fais Muchahari and party chairman Tridip Daimari were also present at the event. Large numbers of party supporters also joined the programme. They discussed preparation for the coming Assembly elections and also talked about strengthening the party organisation at booth and grassroots level.
