The All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees Association, which includes ambulance drivers and technicians, continued its sit-in protest on Thursday, demanding regularisation of their jobs and fair wages. The workers said they have been serving people across Assam for many years but feel that their basic concerns have not been addressed by the authorities.

According to the Association, most workers are on duty for 12 hours every day, but their wages are calculated for only 10 hours. They said this has been the practice for a long time and has caused frustration among the workforce. The protestors added that they often work even on holidays and during emergencies, but there has been no significant improvement in their pay structure.

Pranjal Sarma, President of the Association, said the workers rejected the small pay appraisal recently offered to them. Speaking to ANI, he said, “We work for 12 hours a day but get wages for only 10 hours. We are deployed even on holidays or during emergencies. We have rejected the meagre amount of pay appraisal which was offered to us.” Sarma added that the protest will continue until the government takes steps to address their demands.
