Four leaders of the Congress party in Assam were arrested on Thursday on charges of spreading misinformation on social media. The arrests were made following an investigation by the state’s Cyber Crime Branch.

Former Chabua MLA Raju Sahuk was taken into custody, and the Cyber Crime Branch continues to question him regarding his involvement. APCC spokesperson Upen Rajnath was also arrested, along with Jibeswar Gam, the president of the Social Media Cell of Majuli District Congress, and Baharul Islam, a Congress leader from Rupohihat.

According to officials, all four leaders had shared a doctored video claiming to be from the popular television quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (KBC). The video was found to be fake, and its circulation on social media prompted immediate action from the authorities.
