The Assam government has decided not to allow District Commissioners (DCs) and Additional District Commissioners (ADCs) to take leave during the ongoing Special Revision of the Electoral Roll. The order has been issued by the Personnel Department to make sure that the revision work is completed on time and without any gaps in administration.

The instructions were issued on November 20, 2025, soon after the Election Commission of India sent a letter on November 17 announcing the start of the Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls across Assam. According to the government, the revision is a major exercise and needs close monitoring at the district level.

As per the order, all DCs and ADCs, who serve as Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), must take written permission from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, before taking any kind of leave. The notification clearly mentions that no leave application will be considered unless there is prior approval from the CEO.

The government has said that this restriction will remain in place until the final publication of the updated electoral roll. Officials have been reminded that their presence is essential because they play a key role in checking and verifying the voter lists.

This step has been taken to avoid any disruption in the election-related work during this important period. The government wants to ensure that the entire process is completed within the timeline fixed by the Election Commission.

The Special Summary Revision is now being carried out across the state. The qualifying date for the voter list has been set as January 1, 2026. Officials are currently doing house-to-house visits, adding new voters, deleting names that are no longer eligible, and correcting mistakes in existing entries.
