Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi called Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma the “king of Dispur,” accusing him of ruling Assam with arrogance, fear, and favoritism towards corporate interests. Speaking to massive gatherings in Dhubri and Goalpara, Gogoi declared that the upcoming state elections would be a “real battle,” which he confidently claimed the Congress is prepared to win.
Gogoi alleged that CM Sarma treated public land as his personal property. He claimed that the Chief Minister was attempting to transfer 40,000 bighas of land to big corporate houses like Adani and Ambani while freely buying tea estates and opening private schools. “For all this, poor people can be evicted,” Gogoi said. “But this time, we will teach these kings a lesson. The government is not the property of a king; it must belong to the poor.”
He also criticized the Chief Minister’s repeated references to “the 10th,” claiming the BJP’s efforts fizzled out while the Congress successfully held joining ceremonies on 10 September, 10 October, and 10 November, drawing thousands of new members to the party.
Gogoi further accused the BJP government of shutting down village government schools while issuing licenses for liquor shops. Addressing women in the crowd, he promised that if the Congress returns to power, village liquor shops would be closed and government schools reopened.
The Congress leader took aim at the weakening of autonomous councils under CM Sarma’s “remote control,” contrasting it with the tenure of the late Tarun Gogoi, when communities such as Bodo, Rabha, Garo, Koch-Rajbongshi, and religious minorities in the Goalpara–Dhubri belt received equal support. He described the current CM as “anti-tribal,” alleging that tribal lands are being targeted for corporate acquisition and that the state is being divided along lines of religion, language, and region.
