The Assam Police has carried out a major reshuffle across the state, transferring seventy-three Inspectors (Unarmed Branch) from different districts, battalions, and specialised wings. This transfer order is one of the biggest in recent years and reflects a wide administrative overhaul within the force.
The order was issued by the Assam Police Headquarters at Ulubari, Guwahati, after receiving approval from the Director General of Police. According to the notification, the changes have been made “in the interest of public service,” which is a common phrase used in government postings to indicate that the reshuffle is linked to service requirements.
The transfers cover almost every corner of the state. The first set of changes involves postings across Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Sribhumi, CID, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, GRP, Dergaon, Commissionerate Guwahati, and several district headquarters. For instance, Inspector Amar Ghosh has been moved to South Salmara, while Inspector Sailen Kr Kalita has been posted to Barpeta. Similar exchanges involving Dina Nath Mili, Jyotirmoy Dutta, Amrit Kr Singh, Joseph V. Keivom and Haokam Changsen have taken place in Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Cachar and the CID unit.
More reshuffles followed in Goalpara, Morigaon and Baksa. Inspector Biswajyoti Sarmah’s move from Goalpara to Morigaon led to further adjustments, with Inspector Bhargab Borbora now placed in Goalpara and Inspector Ananda Rabha transferred from Baksa. Transfers were also made to Golaghat and Dima Hasao, while specialised units such as Border Assam and the Assam-Manipur-Mizoram intelligence sector saw movements as well.
A large cluster of changes has also taken place in Jorhat, Karbi Anglong and Kamrup districts. Inspectors Lakshman Kr Das, Rahul Dewry, Nurul Hussain, Naba Kr Saikia and Nabajit Nath have been shifted either to CID or to different district forces. Inspector Kamakhya Mishra has been moved to the 17th APBn, and several officers have been placed in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing to fill positions created by outgoing transfers.
Morigaon, Nagaon and Sivasagar saw another round of rotations. Officers such as Bhadreswar Pegu, Bhaskar Barman, Pankaj Das, Debajit Bordoloi, Sanjit Kr Rai and Bula Ram Terang have received new postings. The Police Commissionerate in Guwahati will now have officers like Bijoy Duworah, Rajib Barman, Sandeep Kr Kanu and Dipak Borgoyari joining its ranks. More officers have also been posted to CID Assam as part of the reorganisation.
The final part of the order lists another series of important changes. Inspector Pranjal Pratim Saikia has been moved from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing to Sonitpur, taking over the post handled earlier by Inspector Robin Ch. Phukan. In Upper Assam, Inspector Pratap Gogoi from Tinsukia has been posted to Dibrugarh, while Inspector Nikunja Barman has been shifted to Morigaon. Inspector Amarjyoti Bailung from West Karbi Anglong will now serve in Tinsukia, which has led to more movements within the Commissionerate Guwahati and Tinsukia district police.
Other officers, including Babul Kr Medhi and Lonki Teron from Biswanath, have been placed in specialised roles. Inspector Amrit Konwar of the 9th APBn has been transferred to the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing. Inspector Kangkan Mahanta has been moved from the Commissionerate to Dergaon, and Inspector Anjad Brahma has taken his position in Guwahati. Inspector Chitraranjan Borah has been posted to West Karbi Anglong, while Inspector Jyotirmoy Gayan has been posted to Baksa. The order ends with Inspector Hrishikesh Hazarika of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing being sent to Jorhat.
