A massive fire broke out on Sunday at the Post Office building near Gate No. 8 in Maligaon’s Bharalumukh area. The fire which started on the third floor of the building quickly spread and sent thick smoke across the neighbourhood.

Many people rushed out onto the streets as fire tenders from the Fire & Emergency Services arrived at the scene. The firefighting team conducted a rescue operation to save those trapped inside.

Two individuals, identified as Debo Choudhury (47) and Pompi Choudhury (36), were rescued in critical condition and immediately taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Despite urgent medical treatment, both succumbed to their injuries due to severe burns and smoke inhalation.
