The residents evicted from Silsako intensified their ongoing protest today, demanding justice, rightful land, and proper rehabilitation, nearly four years after they were displaced.
Gathering at Chachal, the protestors held placards and raised slogans against the government. The demonstration comes as part of a long struggle by the evicted residents to reclaim their rights and seek fair treatment.
The protest follows an earlier demonstration on November 12, when police detained 14 women and four men from the Silsako site. While the women were later released, the men remain in custody, prompting renewed demonstrations today.
Speaking at the protest, several participants reiterated their demand for land under government rules and stressed the importance of proper implementation of housing and land rights. One protestor questioned, “Why can the government provide thousands of bighas of land to big companies like Adani and Ambani, but deny even a small piece of land to families displaced from Silsako?” The sentiment reflected the frustration and anger of the evicted community.
The protestors called on authorities to address their grievances quickly, warning that the movement would continue until justice is delivered.
In addition to land-related demands, the evicted women expressed strong opposition to DCP Mrinal Deka. They alleged that two days ago, during a protest at Vivek Nagar, Deka attacked them. The women have announced plans to file a case against him in court soon.
