Assam Congress president and Jorhat MP, Gaurav Gogoi, today expressed concerns over the recent Bihar Assembly election results, questioning the large margin of victory and stating the need for transparency in the electoral process.
Addressing the media, Gogoi said that while the people of Bihar have exercised their democratic right to vote, the final outcome of the assembly elections appears to be unusually one-sided. “People of Bihar have voted, no doubt. But even they would not have voted for such a one-sided assembly,” he said.
Gogoi also extended congratulations to the Election Commission and Gyaneshwar, presumably referring to senior officials, for managing to defy even the best exit poll predictions. He pointed out that a comparison between the exit poll vote shares and the final results shows relatively little difference, but it also highlights the possibility of targeted vote manipulation in select constituencies, which can significantly affect the overall results.
“The media will continue to ask questions of the opposition and look for easy answers, but they will not ask the real questions to the Election Commission,” Gogoi stated. He added that opposition parties have a responsibility to continue pursuing the truth to protect India’s democracy and uphold the values of the Constitution.
