Bihar Election Results 2025: NDA crosses majority mark, early trends show BJP edge Bihar Election Results 2025: NDA crosses majority mark, early trends show BJP edge

Early trends in the Bihar Assembly elections indicate that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has crossed the majority mark, putting the alliance in a strong position to form the next state government. As early trends started coming in, the NDA was leading on 150 seats against the Mahagathbandhan’s 74 seats. At the time of reporting this news, the NDA was leading at 162 seats, giving the alliance a clear edge over the opposition. The majority mark in the Bihar Assembly is 122 which means the ruling alliance has already crossed the halfway mark according to early trends on TV.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) numbers provide a more detailed picture. As per the ECI, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 25 seats, while the Janata Dal (United) is ahead on 18 seats. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the principal party of the opposition, is leading on 14 seats. The counting began at 8:00 AM, starting with postal ballots, followed by electronic voting machines at 8:30 AM.

Bihar voted in two phases, on November 6 and 11, 2025, recording a historic voter turnout of 67.13 percent, the highest in the state’s electoral history. Both the NDA and the opposition interpreted this high turnout as a sign of strong public engagement with their campaigns.

The ruling NDA relied on the two-decade-long governance record of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the state and the 11-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre. The opposition Mahagathbandhan aimed to leverage anti-incumbency sentiment, economic concerns, and promises of job creation. Analysts say Bihar’s election holds importance not only due to the size of the state in the Hindi heartland but also because of its relatively poor economic condition. Despite accounting for around 10 percent of India’s population, Bihar contributes only about 2.8 percent to the national economy, highlighting low per capita output.
