Assam Police have arrested fifteen people from different districts of the state for allegedly sharing and posting inflammatory messages on social media following the Delhi blast that took place near the Red Fort metro station on November 10.

According to police officials, the latest arrests include Rafijul Ali from Bongaigaon, Forid Uddin Laskar from Hailakandi, Inamul Islam and Firuj Ahmed alias Papon from Lakhimpur, Shahil Shoman Sikdar alias Shahidul Islam and Rakibul Sultan from Barpeta, Nasim Akram from Hojai, Taslim Ahmed from Kamrup, and Abdur Rohim Mollah alias Bappy Hussain from South Salmara.

The police said these arrests were made after detailed monitoring of social media activities in the aftermath of the Delhi explosion. The operation was part of a statewide effort to stop the spread of hate messages, fake information, and posts that could disturb public peace.

Earlier this week, six other individuals had been detained for similar offences, bringing the total number of arrests in Assam to fifteen so far. Police sources said cyber teams had been closely tracking several online accounts that were spreading content seen as provocative and supportive of terrorist acts.

A senior police officer said the force would continue to take firm action against anyone who promotes violence or tries to create communal tension. “Assam Police remains uncompromising against those who glorify violence or attempt to disturb public harmony,” the officer said, adding that the police would pursue strict legal action under relevant laws.

The arrests come after the November 10 blast in Delhi, which killed twelve people and injured several others. The explosion, which ripped through a slow-moving vehicle near the Red Fort metro station, has raised serious concerns about security in the national capital and the possible revival of terror networks.

Following the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed strong condemnation of the attack and called upon citizens to remain alert and united against terrorism. Speaking to reporters at Raha in Nagaon district, Sarma said the state government had already instructed police to step up surveillance and identify individuals spreading pro-terror or hate-based content online.

“The blast in Delhi is highly condemnable. As we all know, a huge quantity of explosives was seized from certain individuals recently, clearly indicating a larger conspiracy. Hopefully, we will get a clearer picture by evening,” the Chief Minister said.
