Residents of Mahipalpur in South West Delhi were startled on Thursday morning when a loud explosion-like sound was reportedly heard near the Radisson Blu Hotel. The Delhi Fire Brigade received a call about the incident at 9:18 AM and promptly dispatched three fire engines to the area.
Delhi Police quickly responded and conducted a thorough check of the site. After a detailed verification, the police confirmed that no suspicious activity or damage was found in the vicinity.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South West Delhi said, “We received a call reporting a blast near the Radisson in Mahipalpur. Our staff was immediately sent to the spot. On contacting the caller, it was found that while the person was traveling towards Gurugram, a loud noise was heard.”
Further investigation revealed the source of the sound. A security guard at the location informed the authorities that the rear tyre of a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus, which was heading towards Dhaula Kuan, had burst. This sudden tyre burst created a noise similar to an explosion, causing temporary panic among locals. The DCP added that the situation is completely under control and there is no reason for concern.
This incident comes just three days after a deadly explosion near the Red Fort that killed 12 people and injured several others. The November 10 blast occurred in a crowded street outside the historic monument in Old Delhi, causing widespread panic and damaging nearby shops.
Investigators have identified the prime suspect of the Red Fort blast as Dr Umar, who had purchased the vehicle used in the attack just 11 days prior. DNA samples collected from his family in Pulwama district matched remains recovered from the blast site, confirming his involvement. Officials have also linked him to a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) logistics module operating across Faridabad, Lucknow, and South Kashmir. This module allegedly included several members, some of whom were doctors, using their medical credentials to acquire chemicals and explosive materials.
