Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gaurav Gogoi, visited Ledo Tikak Colliery in Margherita on the evening of November 10 to review the situation of public sector industries and understand the challenges faced by workers and local communities in the area. The visit comes under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency, a region known for its coal mining and industrial activities.

During his visit, Gogoi held a detailed meeting with officials of Coal India Limited (CIL) – North East Coalfields, including General Manager K. Mere and senior official M.P. Dutta, to discuss the present condition of the coal sector. The discussions mainly focused on employment generation, production-related challenges, and the impact of mining activities on nearby villages. The officials also shared their views on how the industry could be strengthened to bring more stability and development to the region.

The Assam Congress chief was accompanied by the Margherita Block Congress President and several local leaders. They briefed him on the difficulties faced by workers, including job insecurity, poor infrastructure, and limited welfare measures. Gogoi later interacted with people from Ledo and Borgolai, listening to their views on livelihood issues and development needs. Many residents shared their concerns about declining job opportunities and the need for better support for local youth.

Gogoi said that the Congress party is committed to understanding the ground realities and working for the welfare of workers and communities that depend on the coal and industrial sectors. He emphasized that industries like coal mining play a vital role in Assam’s economy and must be developed in a way that benefits both workers and the state.
