A prisoner escaped from Haflong Sub-Jail around noon. The escaped inmate has been identified as Betsing Jidung, also known as Khurang Dimasa, a former cadre of the DNLT. He was serving a sentence in a rape case.

The escape has drawn attention because it took place in a jail that was reportedly under strict security. Despite tight surveillance and regular checks, Jidung managed to flee the premises.

The incident has added to concerns over the handling of high-profile inmates at the same jail. Currently, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritaprabha Bordoloi, accused in the widely reported Zubeen Garg death case, are being held at Haflong Sub-Jail. Questions have already been raised about how such an escape could occur under supposedly strict security protocols.

Following the escape, the jail administration immediately launched a search operation in and around Haflong.
