The judicial commission looking into the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg received two sworn statements on Tuesday. The single-member commission, headed by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court, heard submissions from current AAP member Dulu Ahmed and businessman-producer Luit Kumar Barman.
The hearing took place at the commission office set up at the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board premises in Chandmari. Both individuals submitted written affidavits related to the circumstances surrounding the noted singer’s death.
Speaking briefly to reporters after filing his affidavit, Dulu Ahmed said he had earlier lodged a complaint in Singapore regarding the matter. He noted that he has continued to pursue the issue because he believes the public has a right to know the truth behind the sudden loss of the singer.
“I want justice for Zubeen. I have already filed a complaint in Singapore and I have submitted information before the commission today,” Ahmed said.
Ahmed also expressed doubts about the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case. “I do not have faith in the SIT. If needed, I will go to court again,” he said. He mentioned that documents from Singapore, including information related to a coroner’s report, would be important in the process. “I want the truth to come out. If justice is ensured in Singapore, then I believe we will get justice here too.”
He added that he had also spoken to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in October regarding the case and shared his concerns. “I met the Chief Minister on October 15. I told him I am not stopping this case. I will continue the fight,” he said.
Ahmed further claimed that when he had earlier received a “body receiving award” in Singapore, he had raised questions there as well. “This is not just about me. Zubeen was a public figure, and people deserve answers,” he said.
