Heavy rain and cloudy skies could not stop moreb than 300 runners from gathering in the heart of Kaziranga National Park early Sunday morning. The first-ever Kaziranga Rhino Run 2025 turned into a celebration of fitness, nature, and wildlife conservation, as participants from across India came together to run for a cause — protecting the pride of Assam, the one-horned rhino.
The run began at 6:00 AM from Mihimukh, the main gate of Kaziranga’s Central Range. Despite the wet weather, excitement and enthusiasm filled the air. Runners cheered, waved, and encouraged each other as they moved through the scenic track surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of the forest. Many described the experience as unforgettable, saying the rain added a special feeling to the event.
In the 10 km women’s category, Uttar Pradesh’s Annu Pal took first place with a timing of 38.29 minutes. She was followed closely by Assam’s Sangmir Terongpi, who completed the run in 39.37 minutes. Third and fourth places also went to Uttar Pradesh runners — Mina Rashi and Neeta Patel — while Assam’s Nisha finished fifth. Their strong performance showed the growing popularity and strength of women athletes in long-distance running.
The men’s category also saw a brilliant performance from Uttar Pradesh runners. Ajay Patel secured the first spot by finishing in 31.09 minutes. Just one second behind him was Kamal Kumar, also from Uttar Pradesh, finishing at 31.10 minutes. Kuldeep Mauriya claimed third position with a time of 32.32 minutes. Assam’s own runners, Brojen Tai and Tikeshwar Kurmi, followed in fourth and fifth places, winning applause from the local crowd.
