Raijor Dal President and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has thrown a direct challenge to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, asking him to face a live television debate on the death case of legendary singer Zubeen Garg. Speaking to the media after watching the film Roi Roi Binale, Gogoi said he wanted full justice for Zubeen Garg and questioned the ongoing investigation.

Gogoi said he went to watch the film only to enjoy Zubeen Garg’s work, but after being asked by reporters, he shared his thoughts on the issue. He said Zubeen acted with great emotion in the movie and it felt very heartwarming to see him on screen. Gogoi added that Zubeen Garg always performed with pride and earned the love of the people of Assam with his songs, his acting and his art.

According to Gogoi, people in Assam today want peace, music, films and culture. He said people want to celebrate Zubeen’s art and want justice for him, not politics. Gogoi said that the public feels disappointed because instead of focusing on justice and respecting Zubeen’s legacy, leaders are busy doing politics.

Gogoi accused the ruling BJP government of turning Zubeen’s death into a political topic. He said that he is not targeting any political party as a whole, but those in positions of power. He said the government is trying to escape responsibility and divert attention from the real issues related to the case.

Gogoi criticised the Special Investigation Team (SIT), saying the investigation has been full of mistakes and delays. He alleged that proper legal procedures were not followed, and important steps such as sending a Letter of Request to another country were delayed. He questioned how arrests and a chargesheet could be made before investigators even visited Singapore, where Zubeen had travelled before his death.

He said the SIT reached Singapore 32 days after the incident and returned without any strong information or evidence. Gogoi asked why such a delay happened and why no serious action was taken in the early days of the case when evidence could have been collected faster.

Gogoi also questioned how the Chief Minister confidently announced that a chargesheet would be filed by 18 December when neither the SIT nor the investigating officer had made such a statement publicly. Gogoi claimed this shows political interference. According to him, if the Chief Minister already knows the outcome and timeline of the case, then the investigation seems influenced and controlled.

He also raised questions about the role of BJP MP Pabitra Margherita, saying that the event Zubeen attended before his death was organised by him. “What action has the SIT taken against him?” Gogoi asked. He alleged that no steps were taken against important people connected to the event, and this shows bias in the investigation.

Gogoi said that justice cannot be ensured if politics is allowed inside the investigation. He said that he is only speaking for truth and transparency and not against any party, but against individuals who hold power and are accused of misusing it.

He challenged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma openly to sit for a live TV debate with him on this issue so that people can see both sides clearly. Gogoi said the people of Assam deserve answers and deserve a clear and fair investigation. He stated that this matter is not about political gain, but about justice for Zubeen Garg, who was loved by millions.

Gogoi added that Zubeen was not just a singer or an actor — he was a voice of Assam, a cultural icon and someone who always stood for the people. He said that people are in pain and want truth, not speeches or political statements.

He urged the government to keep politics aside and focus on a clean and honest investigation. He also appealed to the people of Assam to stay united, calm and patient and to continue demanding justice peacefully.
