A very large crowd gathered in Azara in Guwahati on Friday night to demand justice for late singer Zubeen Garg. The protest took place on October 31 at the Sasolpara playground in Loharghat, and people came from many places in South Kamrup, including the Barduwa-Bagan area. The gathering was not organised by any political party or group. People came on their own, simply because they loved Zubeen Garg and wanted justice for him.
According to many people who were present, the crowd included students, youths, elderly people, women, and local artists. They all stood together and raised their voice for the late singer. Several people in the crowd said they came because Zubeen Garg was more than a musician to Assam — he was an emotion, a voice, and a pride for the state. The mood at the protest was emotional and serious, and many people were seen holding placards and banners seeking answers about his death.
Raja Barua, who was known to be very close to Zubeen Garg, spoke strongly at the event. He said that if there was a conspiracy behind the singer’s death, then those responsible would have to face the anger of the public. “The people will not remain silent,” he said while addressing the crowd. Barua also said that the love people have for Zubeen Garg is very deep, and millions across Assam will continue to demand justice till the truth comes out.
Artist Panchana Rabha also spoke at the protest. He stressed that the authorities must take the matter seriously and give justice to Zubeen Garg. He said that government systems and institutions must do their duty, and if they fail, then public anger will rise and people may look for other ways to get answers. His speech was calm but firm, and it received strong support from the crowd.
People at the gathering marched peacefully and shouted slogans like “Justice for Zubeen Garg,” “Give Zubeen Da Justice,” and “We Will Stand United.” Some slogans also targeted the state government, like “BJP Government Beware,” showing that the protesters were unhappy and wanted the government to act fast. However, the protest remained peaceful throughout.
What stood out in this protest was the unity among people. Individuals from different communities, backgrounds, and areas came together. Everyone marched with respect and discipline. They said they were not against anyone, but they wanted truth and fairness in the case of Zubeen Garg’s death. Both Raja Barua and Panchana Rabha walked with the people in the protest, which made many supporters feel encouraged.
People at the protest said they do not want this matter to be forgotten. They said they will continue to raise their voice until the full truth comes out. Many young people at the rally said Zubeen Garg inspired them through his songs and social work, and they want his legacy to be honoured with justice.
