A full-grown rhinoceros was found dead on Wednesday morning near the Kamakhya Temple area in Silghat, Kaliabor, sparking concern among wildlife officials and local residents. The incident has once again drawn attention to the growing number of wildlife conflicts and the dangers faced by animals even within protected zones.
According to forest officials, the carcass of the rhino was discovered below the Kamakhya Temple by local villagers who immediately informed the Shilghat Forest Department. The forest personnel reached the spot soon after receiving the information and cordoned off the area to prevent public gathering.
Preliminary inspection of the body revealed visible signs of a tiger attack, leading to strong suspicion that the rhino may have been killed in a fight with a tiger. Deep claw marks and bite injuries were reportedly found on the rhino’s body, indicating that it might have been attacked while grazing or moving through the forest area during the night.
However, officials said that the exact cause of death can be confirmed only after a detailed examination by a veterinary team.
