Three young men from Boko in Assam travelled all the way to the Odisha coast to stage a symbolic protest demanding justice for Assam’s beloved singer, Zubeen Garg. Their creative act has caught the attention of people across the state and sparked emotional responses on social media.
The protest took place by the sea in Odisha on Tuesday, where the three youths — Ankur Kakati, Ankur Rabha, and Jyotish Das — stood together holding an Assamese gamusa, a traditional symbol of Assamese identity and respect. Written boldly across the cloth were the words “#JusticeForZubeenGarg”. Waves lapped around their feet as they held the red-and-white gamusa high, a gesture that quickly went viral online, with hundreds of people sharing photos and videos of the moment.
Speaking about the reason behind their act, All Rabha Students Union leader Ankur Kakati, who led the small protest, said that the youth community of Assam is determined to continue their movement until justice is delivered for Zubeen Garg, fondly known as “Zubeen Da.” “Until the justice of our heartthrob Zubeen Da is delivered, we will continue to protest in every possible way,” Kakati said with emotion in his voice.
He added that this was not just a protest, but also a tribute — a way of expressing love and respect for the artist who inspired generations through his music, his voice, and his connection to the people of Assam.
