In a major disciplinary move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled six leaders, including sitting MLA Pawan Yadav from Kahalgaon, for alleged anti-party activities. The action, announced late Sunday night by the Bihar BJP unit, is seen as an attempt to maintain unity within the party and its alliance partners under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

According to the party statement, Pawan Yadav and five others—Sunny Yadav, Shravan Kushwaha, Uttam Choudhary, Maruti Nandan Maruti, and Pawan Choudhary—have been suspended with immediate effect. The disciplinary committee found them guilty of working against officially declared candidates of the NDA and violating the principles of the party.

Sources within the BJP said the leaders have been expelled for a period of six years. The move, they said, was necessary to send a clear message that indiscipline and rebellion will not be tolerated. A senior BJP leader remarked that internal unity was vital at a time when the party is preparing for a close contest in the upcoming election.

Pawan Yadav, however, has dismissed the decision as arbitrary. The outgoing MLA, who is contesting as an Independent from Kahalgaon after being denied a BJP ticket, said that he had been loyal to the people and that his expulsion was politically motivated. “I have always worked for my constituency. The decision to expel me was taken without hearing my side,” Yadav reportedly said.
