An active cadre of the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) — self-styled SS Corporal Samiran Chetia, also known as Prabin Asom — surrendered before Tinsukia Police on Monday following a coordinated operation.

According to police sources, the surrender came after a joint operation between Tinsukia Police and security forces, launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding Chetia’s presence in the area. The operation was executed without any exchange of fire, reflecting effective coordination and intelligence sharing among the forces.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Chetia, a resident of Jagun in Tinsukia district, had joined ULFA (I) in 2022. Prior to that, he was associated with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), which, officials say, could provide vital insights during interrogation.
