Noted Assamese writer and litterateur Rita Chowdhury, who conducted the last interview with late singer Zubeen Garg, on Tuesday spoke to reporters after appearing before the CID in connection with the ongoing investigation into the artist’s death.
Chowdhury said that Zubeen appeared “unwell and shivering” when he arrived for the podcast. “He was hot and not in good shape when he came for the interview,” she said. “Generally, people talk a bit before and after the recording — and so did we. Whatever is in the podcast is exactly what we spoke. I uploaded the uncut version of the video.”
She said that Zubeen never mentioned any Singapore trip to her and said she was unaware of his travel plans. “Although he seemed unwell before the show, he gradually became normal during the conversation,” she added.
Reacting to reports suggesting that Zubeen was suffering from depression, Chowdhury said she was not aware of his personal struggles as they were not in constant touch. “I don’t know who his close associates were,” she said.
Chowdhury further said that if Zubeen was truly unfit, he should not have been sent to Singapore, hinting that those around him should have been more cautious about his condition.
