Seven employees of the Manipur State Power Company Limited were attacked by unidentified individuals at a sub-station in Churachandpur district on Monday.

In an official statement, the company condemned the attack, describing it as “brutal” and urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly. “Such acts of violence against workers who are serving the public are unacceptable. We demand immediate action from law enforcement agencies,” the statement read.

The attack comes amid a prolonged period of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which has gripped Manipur since May 2023. The unrest escalated over disputes related to land, political representation, and community rights, leading to widespread tension and disruption across several districts.

The situation in Manipur took a decisive turn when Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned, and President’s rule was imposed in the state. Since then, authorities have been struggling to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents and workers. The assault on power company employees underscores the fragile security situation in the region.
