A massive and deadly drone strike targeted a camp of the proscribed Naga group, NSCN (K-YA), in Myanmar on Monday. Reports suggest that a key leader of the group may have been killed in the attack, though this has not been officially confirmed.
According to sources, the drone strike hit the residence of the NSCN (K-YA) Western Commander. The attack appears to have caused serious disruption to the communication systems used by the commander.
There are unconfirmed reports of multiple casualties among the local population, though official confirmation is still awaited.
This is the second major attack in a short period, following an earlier drone strike on the same rebel camp.
Earlier on October 15, suspected militants of the NSCN (K-YA) faction attacked an Assam Rifles camp at Hatman village under Manmao area of Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred between 2:30 and 3:00 AM, when armed militants opened fire on the Assam Rifles personnel stationed at the post. Initial information suggests that at least four jawans sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire. Two of the injured personnel, identified as Rifleman Harisharan and Rifleman Rahul Bora, were evacuated from Manmao and shifted to the 5 Air Force Hospital in Jorhat around 8:24 AM for advanced medical treatment. This incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by the region and the ongoing threat posed by insurgent factions.
