In a tribute to the late cultural icon and music legend Zubeen Garg, the Gauhati Town Club (GTC) has dedicated its newly constructed Football Academy pavilion at Fulung in North Guwahati to him, naming it the ‘ZG Pavilion’. The move comes as an emotional gesture from one of Assam’s oldest sports institutions to honour a man whose love for both music and football transcended generations.
The club announced the dedication on Sunday, describing it as a gesture of gratitude and admiration for Zubeen Garg’s immense contribution to Assamese culture and his deep passion for sports. Known not only for his soulful voice and musical genius, Zubeen was also an ardent football fan who frequently participated in charity matches and encouraged youth participation in sports.
“The ‘ZG Pavilion’ will serve as a lasting reminder of Zubeen da’s spirit, energy, and his connection with the people of Assam,” a senior club official said. “He was not just an artist; he was a unifying figure who inspired countless young people, including those in the field of sports.”
