‘Justice for Zubeen Garg now’: Akhil Gogoi appeals to government

Gogoi said that the gathering was more than a tribute. It was a demand for accountability and a call to the government to act immediately.

Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi paid an emotional tribute to late Assamese superstar Zubeen Garg today at his crematorium site in Sonapur, calling on the state government to ensure a swift and transparent investigation into the singer’s untimely death.

Gogoi outlined three key demands for the authorities. First, he demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), claiming that the current probe was “unsatisfactory and mishandled.” Second, he called for the investigation to be conducted at the exact location of the incident, rather than at any other place. Finally, he insisted on strict justice: “Whoever killed Zubeen should be hanged, or if this was part of a conspiracy, all involved must face life imprisonment,” Gogoi declared.

“This is not just a crematorium site; it is a place of justice for Zubeen. The people of Assam will not rest until justice is served,” he said, urging the crowd to join in chanting slogans of “We want justice!”

Gogoi said that the gathering was more than a tribute. It was a demand for accountability and a call to the government to act immediately. He warned that failure to respond could lead to wider public protests across the state.

Speaking on the challenges faced by artists, Gogoi said, “Artists like Zubeen dedicate their lives to keeping us happy, often while facing their own struggles. If we fail to stand with them in their hour of need, how can we call it justice?”
