Garima Saikia Garg, wife of the late beloved singer Zubeen Garg, paid an emotional tribute to her husband at his cremation site in Sonapur on Friday. Thousands of fans from across Assam gathered to honour the singer, lighting candles and incense while singing his popular songs, including the iconic “Mayabini.”
Speaking to the media, Garima shared her deep personal connection with the site and how she continues to feel Zubeen’s presence. “Zubeen passed away on Friday, September 19. I come here every Friday to visit him, pray and speak to him. He always gave me strength when he was alive and now even though he is not physically here, I come to seek his guidance and find courage to move forward,” she said.
Garima spoke about the responsibility Zubeen left behind for the people of Assam. “Zubeen dreamed of a prosperous ‘Bor Axom.’ He wanted to work for the people of Assam. For him, all caste, creed, religion and communities were equal. He has given us the responsibility to make his dream a reality. Now, it is up to us to come together and fulfil his vision,” she added.
Fans and admirers expressed their grief and respect while also demanding justice and clarity regarding the circumstances of Zubeen’s death. Many shared stories of how his music inspired them, brought people together, and gave hope during difficult times.
Garima further urged the people of Assam to unite in completing Zubeen’s dream. “He wanted to do everything for the people. He always trusted and believed in them. Now, it is our turn. Let us all come together to build a prosperous ‘Bor Axom,’ just as he dreamed,” she said.
