Security forces in Manipur have successfully arrested four active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) along with one civilian accused of providing them shelter. The arrests took place during separate operations across Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Churachandpur districts, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
According to officials, the first operation was carried out on October 15, 2025, when a joint team of security forces raided a residence in Ningthoukhong Kha Ward No. 6 in Bishnupur district. During the raid, Moirangthem Shanta Singh (52) was apprehended. Singh is accused of harboring members of the KCP (Taibanganba) faction.
Along with Singh, two active insurgents were arrested from the same residence: Ningthoujam Rakesh Singh, also known as Luchingpurel (21), a resident of Bishnupur Ward No. 6, and Laishram Birjit Singh, alias Lucky (35), from Khongjom Bazar Maning in Thoubal district.
Following initial questioning, security forces conducted a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of another KCP (Taibanganba) cadre, Laishram Kishan Singh, alias Pamuba (23), from Tuibong Zion Veng Mamang in Churachandpur district. He was apprehended in the Nachou Panthong area under Bishnupur Police Station jurisdiction.
During these operations, authorities recovered a .32mm pistol with a magazine and five live rounds, five mobile phones, and one side bag containing materials linked to insurgency activities.
In a separate operation on October 16, 2025, security forces arrested Pebam Heera Singh, alias Lakpa (50), of Tekcham Mayai Leikai under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. He is believed to be a member of the KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) faction and allegedly involved in extortion, recruitment of new cadres, and transportation of arms and ammunition. A mobile phone was seized from him during the arrest.
