#JusticeForZubeenGarg: Three more Assam NRIs appear at CID office, says SIT chief

Speaking to reporters, SIT chief and Special Director Munna Prasad Gupta said that so far, a total of 10 NRIs have given statements regarding Zubeen Garg’s death. Another NRI, Wajid Ahmed, a citizen of Singapore, has yet to testify but has expressed his willingness to cooperate.

The investigation into the mysterious death of legendary singer Zubeen Garg took a significant turn today as the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Kamrup Metropolitan District remanded five accused individuals to judicial custody. The accused Shyamkanu Mahanta, Manager Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s brother, Acting Superintendent of Police of Boko district Sandeepan Garg, and bodyguard Nandeshwar Bora along with Paresh Baishya, were presented before the court by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as their police custody period came to an end.

Following the court proceedings, all five were sent to judicial custody, marking another critical step in the ongoing probe. Judicial custody means that the accused will remain under the supervision of the judicial system while the investigation continues, rather than in police detention.

Meanwhile, the SIT continued its questioning of three Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Assam — Susmita Goswami, Pratim Bhuyan, and Devjyoti Hazarika — who appeared at the CID office in Ulubari today.

Addressing concerns over a post-mortem report circulating on social media, Gupta clarified that the document is fake. “It bears no doctor’s signature and cannot be considered authentic,” he said. He warned the public against spreading false information, emphasizing that doing so is a punishable offense. Police are actively monitoring social media and will take action against misinformation.

Gupta said that through the Indian High Commissioner, Singapore authorities have sought information on the subjects and scope of the ongoing investigation. The SIT has already provided the necessary details and is hopeful of positive cooperation from Singapore in the days ahead.
