The recent rape case in Durgapur has ignited strong public anger and a heated political battle in West Bengal. The BJP has organized protests in Durgapur, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over what the party calls her “insensitive” remarks regarding the victim.
So far, five people have been arrested in connection with the case, including a civic body worker. The survivor’s father expressed deep distress, saying that while his daughter is now stable, the family no longer feels safe living in Bengal.
The BJP has escalated its campaign beyond Bengal, taking the issue to Delhi and urging the central government to intervene. Party leaders accused the state government of failing to provide security and justice to the victim and called for strict action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has defended Mamata Banerjee, asserting that her statement was misquoted. The TMC said that the investigation is ongoing and assured that justice will be served.
