First assembly session marks new beginning for BPF-led BTC government First assembly session marks new beginning for BPF-led BTC government

The first assembly session of the newly formed Bodoland People’s Front (BPF)-led government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) was held today at the Council Assembly House, Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar. The event marked the formal beginning of a new chapter in the council’s political journey under the leadership of Hagrama Mohilary, who has returned to power after nearly five years.

Altogether, 37 newly elected Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLAs) took the oath of office during the inaugural session. Among them, 28 belong to the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), five represent the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and four are from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Pro-tem Speaker Tridip Daimary, who administered the pledges to all the members present.

The session was attended by Chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary, and Deputy Chief Rihon Daimary, along with other members of the ruling and opposition parties. The atmosphere inside the assembly hall was calm and orderly, reflecting the significance of the moment. Many leaders and supporters from different districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) were present outside the complex to witness the first session of the newly constituted council.

However, the absence of some prominent leaders drew attention. Former BTC Chief Executive Member and UPPL president Pramod Boro, former BTC Executive Member Rakesh Brahma, and BJP leader Rekha Rani Das Boro did not attend the session.

Meanwhile, Rihon Daimari, newly appointed Deputy Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), expressed gratitude to the people of Bhairabkunda for their overwhelming support in the recent BTC elections. The veteran Bodo leader and former Assam minister won decisively from the Bhairabkunda (ST) constituency, defeating UPPL’s Gobinda Basumatary.

Daimari credited his victory to the collective efforts of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) workers and supporters. He pledged to “work with full dedication and sincerity” to fulfil the aspirations of the people under the leadership of CEM Hagrama Mohilary.

The BPF’s landslide victory—winning 28 of 40 seats—marks a major political comeback for the party in the BTR.
