Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that Rupkamal Kalita, one of the eight people who were with singer-actor Zubeen Garg during his final moments in Singapore, is likely to appear before the state’s CID today. Kalita, who was reportedly on the yacht when Garg tragically drowned while swimming on September 19, has confirmed his cooperation with the investigation team. He is expected to reach Guwahati today to assist with the ongoing inquiry.

Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, CM Sarma noted that while Kalita has shown willingness to cooperate, the remaining seven individuals who were with Garg at the time of the incident have not responded to the summons issued by the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT). “We will maintain pressure on them. The sooner they come, the sooner we can finish the investigation. We will motivate them to cooperate with us,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister expressed hope that Kalita’s compliance might encourage the others to follow suit. “We believe that if one comes, the others will also follow,” he added.

Regarding the possibility of Assam police visiting Singapore to conduct their own investigation, Sarma clarified that it is not necessary. “Our request has already been sent to Singapore under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT). Whatever evidence the Singapore Police gathers will be shared with us. No foreign country allows another country’s police to investigate on their soil,” he said.
