Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the Kahilipara residence of the late singer-actor Zubeen Garg to personally convey his condolences and spend time with the bereaved family.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Dr. Sarma said that his visit was not part of any official engagement but a deeply personal gesture. “Today I visited Zubeen’s residence and met his family members not as the Chief Minister of Assam, but as an elder brother and a longtime admirer of Zubeen Garg. I sat with Garima Saikia Garg, spoke to Zubeen’s sister Palme Borthakur, and met Zubeen’s father to enquire about his health,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister made it clear that there were no discussions related to the ongoing investigation during the visit. “It was entirely a personal visit. I knew both Garima and Zubeen for a very long time — Garima and I were seniors and juniors at Cotton College. This visit was to share in their grief and be part of their mourning during this difficult period,” he added.

Later in the day, Dr. Sarma also urged everyone to maintain restraint while discussing the ongoing investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death. He stressed that the matter was sensitive and that frequent speculation or public debate could affect the progress of the probe.

Responding to questions from the media, the Chief Minister said he would not comment on the details of the investigation at this stage. “Because it is a sensitive issue, I prefer not to discuss it with journalists or the media,” he said.

He further stated that all official updates and clarifications regarding the investigation would be shared directly through his verified Facebook page to ensure transparency and accuracy. “Whatever I have to say, or whatever questions the public may have, I will address them through my Facebook page,” Dr. Sarma added.
